Sleep Out for the homeless in Guildford
This winter Guildford Action and the Guildford Lions are coming together to shine a spotlight on the issue of homelessness in our local community with a December Sleep Out. As temperatures start to plummet, the plight of those without somewhere to sleep each night becomes ever more serious. Whilst we can wrap up warm, and scurry home to our warm duvets, feather mattresses and central heating, rough sleepers face real the reality of survival on the streets, with only their wits and a sleeping bag to get them through the night.
The Sleep Out event will take place in the underground car park of Guildford Spectrum on Friday 30th November 2018 from 9pm – 6am and is an opportunity to get a small taster of what it’s like to sleep rough, whilst raising funds to make a difference to those who have to do so night after night.
Whilst you will have a roof over your head, you will be exposed to the elements whether that’s driving rain, wind or even snow so you’ll need to come prepared! Toilets will be available throughout the night, as well as hot drinks and a breakfast snack before you leave so basic comforts will be provided. You will be in the company of other Sleep Out participants and the event will be managed by volunteers from Guildford Action and the Guildford Lions. There will be security on site, as well as St John’s Ambulance so you will be completely safe, unlike those who really do have to sleep rough regularly.
How to get involved
All you need to get involved is a sleeping bag, some warm layers of clothing and a willingness to endure an uncomfortable, hard night’s sleep in order to help raise funds for those in need in your community.
We ask for a £10 donation to secure your pitch, £5 for under 16’s and a minimum sponsorship of £100. Unfortunatley we cannot have children under the age of 11 on the night, and all under 16’s need to be accompanied by an adult.
Once you have booked your pitch you will receive your information and sponsorship pack.
